Badgers sweep DH at West Florida, 5-0 & 6-3
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team swept a non-conference road doubleheader away from the University of West Florida (UWF) Lady Argonauts on Wednesday evening at the UWF Softball Complex by the scores of 5-0 and 6-3 behind two complete games by junior pitcher Caroline Sagrera.

The Lady Argos (1-9) had only one hit in the first game as Sagrera tied her career-high with 15 strikeouts with no walks. SHC scored on a passed ball in the 3rd inning that brought in sophomore centerfielder Jenna Charnock. The Badgers added two runs in both the 6th and 7th innings when freshman 2nd baseman Carmen Byrd first scored on a wild pitch and sophomore designated player Mary Glass added a run-scoring single. Byrd then plated two more runs with an infield single that was compounded by a throwing error by the Lady Argos.

Rebecca Hine (0-4) took the loss in 6.1 innings as the Badgers reached her for four hits, six walks and three strikeouts.

Sagrera (5-1) returned to the circle for the nightcap and handed out another 13 strikeouts with one walk and three hits in the win. UWF grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning when Lady Argo designated player Jessica Wilkinson lifted a 2-run homer and then tacked on an unearned run in the 3rd inning off a Badger throwing error.

Spring Hill rallied to score twice in the 5th inning when Byrd tripled in 3rd baseman Emma Kittrell and later scored off a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Charnock. The Badgers exploded for four runs in the 7th inning to complete the comeback and the day's sweep when Kittrell scored off an infield bunt single by Charnock and catcher Samantha Leach doubled in Charnock and senior shortstop Shea Blanchard. Leach later scored off a dropped fly ball to the outfield by Glass.

Kalyn Chapman (0-3) was saddled with the loss as the Badgers pounded out eight hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

On the day, SHC was paced by Byrd with four hits and two RBIs and Charnock with three hits and three RBIs while Leach and Glass had a pair of hits each.

Spring Hill (7-2) next hosts the University of Mobile Lady Rams in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. on Wednesday at Murray Field.
