Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team opened the 2015-2016 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) slate with a 65-38 West Division victory over the Tuskegee University Tigerettes on Thursday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

The Tigerettes (1-5; 0-1 SIAC West) jumped out to a 14-11 lead by the end of the 1st period, but the Badgers took control of the game in the 2nd period, outscoring Tuskegee 16-4 and taking a 27-18 lead into halftime.

The 3rd period was more of the same as the 2nd quarter as SHC bested the Tigerettes 20-5 over the 10-minute span and cruised through the final period 18-15 in route to the 65-38 final score.

Freshman forward Tiffany Valentine led the balanced Badger offense with 11 points as Spring Hill shot 36.8% (21-57) from the field and 21.1% (4-19) from 3-point distance. At the charity stripe, SHC sank 82.6% (19-23) of their free throws for a marked improvement on their 58.9% effort for the season. The Badger took away 10 steals while the Tigerettes lost 22 turnovers. Spring Hill also won the rebound war in a 46-42 outcome.

Rachel Brownlee of Tuskegee led all scorers with 14 points and Tyler Everett hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds. Tuskegee managed to find the mark on just 20.8% (11-53) of their shots and was 0-for-10 from 3-point land with a 55.2% (16-29) night at the free throw line. The Tigerettes earned eight steals with the Badgers losing 18 turnovers.

The Badgers (2-3; 1-0 SIAC West) will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., on Saturday at 2 p.m. to face non-conference rival the William Carey University Lady Crusaders (3-2) at Clinton Gymnasium.
