Crusaders outpace Badger men, 97-74
Box Score HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team came up on the short end of a 97-74 decision versus non-conference rival the William Carey University (WCU) Crusaders at Clinton Gymnasium on Saturday evening.

The Crusaders (3-3) took an early 11-0 lead until SHC redshirt freshman guard Sawyer Glick stopped the run by connecting on a 3-point attempt at 17:38 of the 1st half. By the 14:22 mark, Carey held a 22-10 advantage, highlighted by shooting 4-of-5 (80.0%) from 3-point distance. WCU then shifted to the inside to score four consecutive buckets in the paint to expand the lead to 34-16 with 10 minutes to go until the half.

Spring Hill cut the deficit to 34-22 with a 6-0 run over the next four minutes. Sophomore guard Jack Clarke hit a 3-pointer with 3:44 on the clock to bring the Badgers back to within 36-27, but Carey got hot once again over the half's final three minutes to take a 51-36 lead into the locker room.

The second half started much the same as the first period as Carey built a 61-40 bulge three minutes into play. By the 10-minute mark, SHC trailed 76-50.

Glick put 21 points in the buckets for Spring Hill while the Badgers shot 44.3% (27-61) from the field as a team and 33.3% (7-21) from 3-point distance. SHC took away six steals while Carey lost 16 turnovers.

For the home-standing Crusaders, Cory Jackson scored 15 points and Leo Garrett added 14 points as six WCU players reached double-digits in scoring. The Crusaders shot 60.4% (32-53) overall, including 42.9% (9-21) from behind the 3-point arc. Carey also earned a 34-28 advantage in rebounding while benefitting from 18 Badger turnovers off 11 steals.

The Badgers (1-5) will next take the short trip down Old Shell Road on Monday night to face the University of South Alabama (USA) Jaguars (1-3) in an exhibition contest at the USA Mitchell Center at 7:05 p.m.
