Union Bulldogs claw past SHC men, 82-67
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team closed out the 2015-2016 GSC-SIAC Challenge with an 82-67 non-conference home loss to the Union University (Tenn.) Bulldogs at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs (2-0) built a 49-33 lead heading into halftime and held as much as a 28-point advantage with 7:45 left to play in the contest.

Spring Hill was led by sophomore guard James Clarke who put 16 points in the baskets. As a team, SHC shot 45.6% (26-57) from the field including 42.9% (6-14) from 3-point distance. The Badgers suffered 11 turnovers to six Bulldog steals while benefiting from 10 Union turnovers in the face of five Badger steals.

Union was on target with 44.0% (22-50) of their shots with an impressive 58.8% (10-17) effort from behind the 3-point arc. Five Bulldogs reached double figures in scoring paced by Jordan Montgomery with 19 points. Union out-rebounded SHC 38 to 27 under the baskets.

Foul troubles hurt the Badgers throughout the evening as the Bulldogs went to the line 37 times for 28 free points (75.7%) at the charity stripe while SHC made nine of just 13 (69.2%) free throw attempts.

The Badgers (0-2) will host the Mississippi College Choctaws (1-0) in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. Last season, SHC fell to the Choctaws 77-57 in Clinton, Miss.
