SHC men surrender 67-57 road decision to Claflin Panthers
Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team lost to the Claflin University Panthers in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road verdict by a 67-57 score on Thursday night at the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center.

The Panthers (6-9, 3-3 SIAC East) earned an 8-3 lead in the early minutes of the game, but freshman guard Jack Morrissey kept the Badgers close with three early 3-pointers as Claflin held a 19-18 lead with six minutes left in the first half. Morrissey's fourth trey whittled a 5-point Panther lead down to 25-23 at 2:27 as the teams would head into halftime with Claflin leading 26-25.

Claflin's defense dug in during the early stages of the 2nd half and the Panthers clawed out a 37-28 edge with 14½ minutes to play in the game. Junior guard Jackson Fos converted a 4-point play to bring the Badgers within six points at 41-35 at 9:56 and then drained a deep rainbow 3-pointer with a shooter's bounce off the rim to make it a 43-38 contest just 20 seconds later.

Spring Hill trailed 50-42 with five minutes to go in the contest, but fell down 54-42 a minute later off two Claflin free throws and a backcourt turnover that resulted in a Panther dunk.

Morressy's 15 points led the Badgers and senior Calflin forward Arthur Talley led all Panther scorers with 15 points. SHC shot 32.6% (15-46) overall and 62.5% (10-16) from 3-point range while Claflin was 37.8% (17-45) from the field and 23.5% (4-17) in shots from beyond the arc.

The Badgers took the edge in rebounding 35-33, but lost 17 turnovers to 11 steals by the Panthers while benefiting from just 11 turnovers by Claflin with a single SHC steal.

Spring Hill (3-12, 2-4 SIAC West) will next travel to Atlanta, Ga. to face the Clark Atlanta University Panthers (3-9, 2-3 SIAC East) at Epps Gymnasium on Saturday at 8 p.m. (Eastern)
