Badger men upset previously unbeaten William Carey, 60-55
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team broke into the winner's column for the first time this season by stunning previously undefeated William Carey University 60-55 on Saturday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.

Spring Hill started strong and built a 7-point advantage over the NAIA's 9th-ranked Crusaders (7-1) with 9:40 left on the first half clock, but Carey fought back to take a 21-20 lead into the halftime locker rooms.

In the second half, SHC came out hot and rebuilt a 5-point cushion at 17:11 aided by consecutive 3-point buckets by guards senior Robert Drummond and junior Jarrett Calhoun.

Carey rallied to retake 2-point leads twice midway through the final period, but SHC kept finding answers as Calhoun sank two free throws just inside the 12 minute mark to re-stake the Badgers to a 39-34 lead.

A layup by Carey's Cory Jackson tied the game at 46-46 with 4:35 remaining, but two more Calhoun free throws gave SHC a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way as the Badgers connected on free throws down the stretch after struggling at the line for the previous 35 minutes of play.

Drummond and Calhoun both scored 13 points in a balanced SHC offensive attack while freshman forward Reginald Harbin added 12 points and junior DeVaughn Hardrick put 10 points in the baskets. Spring Hill shot 54.3% (19-35) from the floor including 42.9% (3-7) in 3-point attempts, but connected on just 50% (19-38) of their free throws. SHC turned the ball over 19 times versus seven Carey steals as both teams hauled in 31 rebounds.

Carey shot 39.6% (21-53) from the field and was 33.3% (5-15) in 3-point shooting while suffering 16 turnovers versus six steals by Spring Hill. Corey Brister scored 17 points off the bench for the Carey while Jackson contributed 14 points.

Spring Hill (1-6) now takes a 7-day break for final exams before visiting the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) for an exhibition game with the Golden Eagles (4-2) at Reed Green Coliseum on Saturday in a 7 p.m. tip off.
