Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team opened their home season with a 57-53 non-conference loss to the Lady Argos of the University of West Florida (UWF) on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Lady Argos (1-0) had built out a 28-15 advantage by the intermission, but Spring Hill responded in the 2nd half by stepping up their full-court defense that resulted in several turnovers and easy buckets on the other end for the Badgers.
By the 7:02 mark, SHC had rallied to take a 40-39 lead off a layup by freshman guard

Leah Washington from Houma, La. Washington would later respond to two UWF free throws with two layups at 6:05 and 3:17 to reclaim a 48-45 lead for SHC.
Hill made it a 51-50 score in favor of the Badgers with a layup at 1:32, but Katie Bobos converted a 3-point play off the hoop and harm at 1:12 to make it a 53-51 UWF lead and Toni Brewer would put back a crucial offensive rebound with 37 seconds left to put the Argos up 55-53. A missed jumper at 5 seconds by Washington and a 2-of-4 effort at the free throw line by the Argos in the final seconds sealed the victory for the visitors.
Hill paced SHC with 24 points while Washington added 10 points as SHC shot 43.1% (22-51) from the field and was just 11.1% (1-9) from 3-point land. The Badgers suffered 20 turnovers against nine steals and were out-rebounded 41-24 by the Argos.
UWF was led by Brewer with 16 points and shot 43.5% (20-46) from the floor and was 0-2 in 3-point attempts. The Argos turned the ball over 28 times as SHC took away 13 steals.
Spring Hill (0-2) next plays West Florida in a return game in Pensacola, Fla., at the UWF Field House on Tuesday beginning at 5:05 p.m.
