Miss College slides past Spring Hill men, 77-57
Box Score CLINTON, Miss. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team took a 77-57 skid at non-conference foe the Mississippi College (MC) Choctaws in the host team's season opener at A. E. Wood Coliseum on Thursday night.

The Choctaws (1-0) earned an early 1-0 lead before the game even started as the Badgers were whistled for a technical foul for dunking during warm ups. MC then built out an 11-5 lead at the 15:15 mark of the 1st half.

SHC struggled to penetrate the Choctaw interior defense in the early going as MC constructed a 22-8 lead with 10:30 remaining in the period and held a 35-23 advantage at halftime.

Mississippi College opened the 2nd half with a 7-2 run for a 42-25 lead at 16:42 and continued to lead 53-38 with 10 minutes left in the contest.

As team, SHC shot 35.3% (18-451) overall and 30.4% (7-23) from 3-point range as junior guard Jarrett Calhoun of Linden, N.J., scored 11 points and senior Robert Drummond of Fairhope, Ala., added 12 points for the Badger effort. Spring Hill suffered 21 turnovers in the face of 14 steals by the Choctaws, but out-rebounded the Choctaws 41-33 on the boards.

MC shot 46.3% (25-54) from the field and 26.1% (6-23) in 3-point attempts while committing 12 turnovers versus just one Badger steal. Tory Rice put in 19 points to lead all scorers in the game.

Spring Hill (0-4) will next host the University of West Florida Argonauts (2-0) in a non-conference contest at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
