Box Score ROME, Ga. – The Spring Hill College men's basketball team took a 75-60 loss to the Union University (Tenn.) Bulldogs at the Winthrop-King Centre in the Shorter University Classic on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs (2-0) grabbed a quick 20-2 lead just six minutes into the contest and held a 44-33 lead at the intermission.
Junior guard
Jarrett Calhoun of Linden, N.J., scored the first four points of the 2nd half for SHC as the Badgers whittled their deficit down to 44-37, but Union had recaptured a 13-point bulge at 56-43 with under 13 minutes to play. With three minutes left on the clock the Union advantage had grown to 70-55.
Drummond tallied 16 points to lead the Badgers while freshman
James Clarke of Winnetka, Ill., added 14 points. Senior forward
Frederick Gatson of Riverdale, Ga., contributed 11 points to the Spring Hill cause. As a team, SHC shot 46.8% (22-47) from the field and 46.7% (7-15) from 3-point distance. SHC out-rebounded Union 28-26 in the contest.
Spring Hill (0-2) will face the Fighting Saints (6-1) of Carroll College (Mont.) on Monday in their home opener at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center at 7 p.m.
