“Lenny” was a two sport standout on The Hill in both basketball and baseball. With Toups on the mound the Badgers had a chance against the best, he was considered the “iron man” of the pitching staff. The always upbeat and positive Toups was known as one of the best hurlers in south. In his April 4, 1922 outing, Toups pitched a four hit 7-0 shutout against Mississippi State that included Lenny helping himself with a home run, which was a highlight in a 9-1 season for the Badgers. On April 23, 1923, Toups pitched a no-hitter shutout victory where the Badgers beat LSU 9-0. During Toups' baseball career on The Hill, he faced not only the top college teams in the south but also many professional and top amateur teams.
