Root, a senior throws specialist from Baton Rouge, La., set a new SHC school record in the men’s javelin on Friday with a heave of 62.38 meters (204'8") at the Falcon Classic hosted by the University of Montevallo. His toss also surpassed the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Provisional Qualifying Mark for 2018.
