Toups, a freshman from Baton Rouge, La., ran a school third-best all-time 5,000-meter time with a mark of 16:24.44 in his collegiate debut to earn the individual championship over a field 76 runners at the annual Mississippi College Season Opener at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss.
